TNT has handed an early renewal to its flagship series Rizzoli & Isles. The network has ordered 15 episodes for the show’s fourth season which is set to premiere in 2013.

Currently airing its third season, Rizzoli & Isles revolves around Jane Rizzoli, a tough-as-nails Boston police detective, and Maura Isles, a smart, impeccably dressed medical examiner from a privileged background. Despite being complete opposites, the two women share an offbeat chemistry and strong working relationship that lets them solve complex murder mysteries in the city of Boston. The drama series is produced by Warner Horizon Television and stars Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander, Lorraine Bracco, Bruce McGill, Lee Thompson Young, Jordan Bridges and Brian Goodman.

For the show’s third season, the drama series moved from its safe post-The Closer time-slot and was used to anchor TNT’s line up on Tuesday nights. Despite the move, Rizzoli & Isles still remains the network’s highest rated series and has been averaging 7.1 million total viewers in Live + 3 delivery, with the season premiere climbing to 8 million viewers in Live + 7. The show also ranks as summer’s top returning scripted series on basic cable in total viewers. Among key demos, Rizzoli & Isles has averaged 2 million adults in the 18-49 demo in Live + 3, with 2.5 million in the 25-54 demo in live+3.

Speaking of the renewal, Michael Wright, President and head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM, said: “Anchoring a new night in its third season, Rizzoli & Isles has proven itself to be a strong and enduring hit, not only in terms of the great storylines and performances, but also in terms of the show’s stellar ratings. We’re thrilled that Rizzoli & Isles will continue to be a vital part of the TNT lineup.”
