Created and written by Kathy Burke, Walking and Talking takes viewers into Burke’s life and tells the story of how she became the person she is now, from humble beginnings on the streets of Islington. From a young age Kathy harboured a dream to be an actress, but circumstance and her upbringing made it an unlikely dream. The comedy series stars Ami Metcalf (Upstairs Downstairs) as a young Kathy Burke, Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Luther) as her best friend Mary, Kathy Burke as “Angry Nun”, Sean Gallagher (Coronation Street) as “Pretty Nun” and Jerry Sadowitz as Jimmy The Jew.
The four part comedy series begins in 1979 Islington, BB (Before Blair). The one thing Kath loves above everything else is music – she’s a “punk/new-wave/suedehead/skinhead sort of fing”. Kath doesn’t get along at school, and her dreams of being an actress are dampened when she’s told she hasn’t got “the looks”. So, instead, the youngster sets out to be a music journalist. Together with Mary, Kath maps out her future while overcoming the usual trials and travails of being a teen.
