BBC One has renewed legal drama series Silk for a third season of six episodes to air in 2013, TVWise has confirmed.
Created by Peter Moffat, Silk follows the lives of two barristers in London. In the show’s second season, the series explored the pressures on both Martha Costello and Clive Reader as she dealt with the increased workload involved with being a QC, while he attempted to deal with the rejection of not making the cut. The drama series is produced by BBC Drama Production and stars Maxine Peak as Martha Costello QC, Rupert Penry-Jones as Clive Reader, Indira Varma as George Duggan, Frances Baraber as Caroline Warwick QC, John MacMillan as John Bright, Amy Wren as Bethany, Theo Barklem-Biggs as Jakes, Neil Stuke as Billy and Phil Davis as Micky Joy.
In a statement confirming the renewal, series-creator Peter Moffat said: “It’s a joy to write for Maxine Peake and this group of actors. I feel very privileged and lucky. I can’t wait to get going. Lots of big ideas about cases, characters, relationships, politics, as well as a great deal of unfinished business from this current series. It’s usually a good sign as a writer when your anxiety about a new series is not what to say but how to fit everything in. The big challenge for all of us is keeping what is very obviously a highly intelligent and focused audience entertained and engaged.”
