David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Janet Montgomery (Human Target) have joined the cast of BBC Four’s upcoming mini-series Spies of Warsaw.
The two part mini-series is set in Poland, Paris, London & Berlin in the years leading up to the Second World War and tells the tale of French and German intelligence operatives who are locked in a life-and-death struggle on the espionage battlefield.
David Tennant has been cast as Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier, a decorated war hero and the new military attaché at the French embassy. While Janet Montgomery has been cast as Anna, a lawyer for the League of Nations and Colonel Mercier’s lover.
They are joined by a large supporting cast including: Ludger Pistor, Ann Eleonora Jørgensen, Jan Pohl, Rad Kaim, Piotr Baumann, Burn Gorman, Ellie Haddington, Viktor Rosen, Linda Bassett, Anton Lesser, Richard Lintern, Richard Teverson, Nicholas Blane, Adam Godley, Kenneth Collard, Dan Fredenburgh, Tuppence Middleton, Tusse Silberg and Julian Harries.
Spies of Warsaw is based on the series of novels by Alan Furst and is being adapted by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. The two part series is being produced by Fresh Pictures, TVP, ARTE France and BBC Worldwide, with Richard Fell and Jamie Laurenson serving as executive producers.
