Universal Channel Acquires UK Rights To Flashpoint, Sets Premiere For March 19th

Exclusive: I’ve learned that the Universal Channel has acquired the UK broadcast rights to the first season of Canadian police drama series Flashpoint and, in what is a very fast turnaround, they have already set Monday March 19th at 8pm as the premiere date.

Flashpoint follows an elite unit of the Canadian police know as the Strategic Response Unit or SRU, who take on high profile cases such as hostage situations, bomb threats and taking down heavily armed criminals. The series was created by Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern and stars Hugh Dillon, Amy Jo Johnson, Sergio Di Zio, David Paetkau and Enrico Colantoni. Flashpoint just recently finished airing its fourth season on CTV in Canada, with a fifth season currently in production.

This is not the first time that the series has been seen on UK television. ITV originally picked up the rights to the series and aired the show’s first season back in 2008 on ITV 3. However, due to poor ratings they opted not to acquire subsequent seasons of the series.
