Exclusive: I have learned that Universal Channel has closed a deal to acquire the UK broadcast rights to A&E’s drama series Breakout Kings from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution. I’m also being told that Universal has set the premiere for the show’s 13 episode first season for Wednesday April 11th at 10pm.

Created by Nick Santora and Mark Olmstead (Prison Break), Breakout Kings follows two US Marshals who create a small task-force comprised of three convicted felons, to track down escaped prisoners. The drama series stars Laz Alonso as Deputy US Marshal Charlie Duchamp, Domenick Lombardozzi as Special Deputy US Marshal Ray Zancanelli, Jimmi Simpson as Dr. Lloyd Lowery, Malcolm Goodwin as Sean Daniels, Brooke Nevin as Jules Simms and Serinda Swan as Erica Reed.

The show’s second season is currently being aired by A&E in the United States, with the premiere episode of the second season down 25% in total viewers and 33% in the 18-49 demographic compared to the series premiere last year.
