ITV has renewed crime-drama series DCI Banks for a second season. The channel has ordered six episodes for the show’s second season, which is expected to begin production by the end of the month.

DCI Banks is based on the novels written by Peter Robinson and was developed for television by Robert Murphy. The series stars Stephen Tompkinson as Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks and Andrea Lowe as Detective Sergeant Annie Cabbot and follows the duo as they carry out various murder investigations. Joining the cast this season is Caroline Catz in the role of Detective Inspector Helen Morton.

The show’s second season was commissioned for ITV by Drama Commissioning team Laura Mackie, Sally Haynes and Steve November. Speaking of the renewal Sally Haynes said: “DCI Banks is now established as a firm favourite within ITV’s crime drama slate. We’re delighted so many viewers are appreciating Robert Murphy’s adaptations and how the team at Left Bank Pictures are producing DCI Banks.”
