Multiple sources have confirmed that the release is happening and that the DVD set will hit stores on Monday May 14th. I’m also being told that artwork for the set hasn’t been finalised and no further details are available at this time, including the number of discs or what (if any) special features may be included. Sony is expected to officially announce the title within the next week.
This jives with what I was recently told by sources at Sony about their being movement with regards to Season 3 of the series finally coming to the UK. At the time I believed that meant a new UK broadcaster, but after weeks of looking into things I was told that there was almost no chance of the series finding a new UK broadcaster. Instead Sony have decided to take the leap and market season 3 straight to consumers.
Breaking Bad was created by Vince Gilligan and follows Walter White, a terminal cancer patient who, concerned that his family will be without means following his death, turns to cooking methamphetamine to make large amounts of fast money. The series stars Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito and Jonathan Banks.
For those not following the saga of Breaking Bad in the UK, the series’ first season was broadcast by FX, but failed to find much of an audience. The series was then picked up by Channel 5 who aired the second season in a late night slot on their 5USA channel in 2009. It was then that Channel 5 decided not to continue airing the series due to low ratings. The series has been without a UK home ever since.
