Exclusive: More4 has the free-to-air rights for the final season of The Closer and will begin airing the show’s seventh season later this year, sources at the channel have confirmed exclusively to TVWise. I’m also being told that while they haven’t made a decision yet, they are willing to consider acquiring the rights to Major Crimes, the spin-off series of The Closer, which is set to premiere in the United States on TNT this summer.
The news that More4 has the rights to season seven comes just months after UKTV owned channel Alibi purchased the Pay TV rights to seasons 1 – 7 of the series from Warner Bros. International Television Distribution. I’m told that Alibi will air season seven but it wont be for quite some time as they are currently airing the show’s second season.
The Closer stars Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda Leigh Johnson, a deputy chief in the LAPD who has a knack for getting difficult to obtain confessions. The show’s seventh and final season spans 21 episodes instead of the usual 15 and is currently on a mid-season break. The final season of The Closer will continue airing in the United States in the summer and serve as a springing board for the spin-off, Major Crimes.
