BBC One has ordered a new comedy series based on the Blandings Castle series by noted author PG Wodehouse. The BBC has ordered six episodes for the show’s first season which is being produced by Mammoth Screen.
Set in 1929, Blandings will star Timothy Spall as Lord Clarence Emsworth and Jennifer Saunders as his sister Connie Emsworth. The six part comedy series is being written and executive produced by Guy Andrews and directed by Paul Seed. Blandings has been described by Andrews as “dysfunction junction, the home of a chaotic family struggling to keep itself in order.”
Speaking at the time that Blandings was announced, Danny Cohen, BBC One Controller, said “PG Wodehouse was a comic master, and we are very excited about bringing his stories to life for a new generation of television viewers. I’m sure that the equally brilliant Timothy Spall and Jennifer Saunders will do justice to Wodehouse’s work, and I hope Lord Emsworth can put up with all the noise of the production.”
The series will be filmed in Northern Ireland with the support of Northern Ireland Screen. Kristian Smith, Michele Buck and Damien Timmer are serving as executive producers alongside Guy Andrews.
