Alibi has announced that the fourth season of the award winning drama series, Castle, will premiere in the United Kingdom on Wednesday March 7th at 9pm. Season 4 is set to pick up from the explosive season 3 finale which saw Captain Roy Montgomery murdered and Detective Beckett being shot at Montgomery’s funeral. Replacing Montgomery as the new commanding officer of the twelfth precinct this season is Penny Johnson Jerald (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, 24) as Captain Victoria “Iron” Gates.
The series’ fourth season has been airing in the United States on ABC since September 19th, 2011 when it premiered to 13.28 million viewers and a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic in live+same day. Since then the series’ ratings have fallen, with the show’s latest episode pulling in 10.05 million viewers and a 2.1 rating. That said, the show’s recent ratings are well within average for a scripted drama series airing on ABC and Castle’s numbers are expected to receive a bump later in the spring when Dancing With The Stars returns in March as the lead in to Castle.
Castle began airing on Alibi in 2010 and the series has proved to be very successful for the channel. The season 3 premiere on Alibi attracted 365 000 viewers; over 90% above the time-slot average. It was announced several months ago that UKTV (on behalf of Alibi) had extended its deal with Disney UK for Castle, obtaining the pay TV rights to the shows fourth season. At the time that the deal to acquire the rights to the show fourth season was announced, UKTV’s Acquisitions Manager, Alexandra Finlay, said “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Disney with the acquisition of Castle series four. From series one, Castle has been a hit with Alibi’s viewers, and the show exemplifies UKTV’s aim to secure the best US crime content for the channel.”
