In a recent interview with my9tv.com, Andy Breckman, creator and executive producer of USA Network’s hit series Monk, revealed that he had been working on a two hour Monk TV movie and had just recently finished writing the script. The movie is politically themed and, according to Breckman, is titled “Mr Monk for Mayor.”
Monk ran for eight seasons on the NBC Universal owned USA Network, (the longest running scripted series the network has ever had) and followed Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk, a former detective turned private consultant for the San Fancisco Police Department who suffered from pronounced OCD following the murder of his wife. The series concluded on December 4th, 2009 attracting record ratings figures of 9.5 million viewers.
According to Andy Breckman, the two hour TV movie will be filmed in California over the summer and may air in December. Representatives of USA Network declined to comment on the accuracy of the news, including whether they had ordered such a TV movie or when it would air. We will be sure to bring you more when USA Network formally announces the project.
