ABC Family has renewed The Secret Life of The American Teenager for a fifth season. There has been no official word on how many episodes have been ordered, but I’m being told that it is somewhere in the 20 – 24 episode range. The drama series’ fourth season is set to return to ABC Family on March 26th.
The cable network has also green-lit production on a new comedy series. The comedy, Baby Daddy, has been described as the highest rated comedy pilot in the history of the network and stars Chelsea Kane (“Dancing with the Stars”), Tahj Mowry (“The Game”) and Derek Theler (“90210”). The series was created by Dan Berendsen and follows a young man who becomes a father when his ex-girlfriend leaves a baby on his doorstep and rather than take the child to social services he decides to raise the child with the help of his family and close friends. Production is slated to commence in the spring in Los Angeles and while there has been no official comment regarding the number of episodes ordered, I am being told that the order for Baby Daddy is in the 10 – 12 episode range.
ABC Family also ordered a new reality series: Beverly Hills Nannies, which follows a group of nannies in Beverly Hills as they take care of the children of the rich and famous. Evolution Media is producing the series which, much like Baby Daddy, will begin production in the spring.
