Season 5 of Murdoch Mysteries will have its global premiere on Alibi on Tuesday February 28th at 9pm, the UKTV owned channel has announced. The series, which has been a ratings winner for Alibi, is a co-production between UKTV, Citytv (who currently airs the series in Canada), ITV Studios Global Entertainment and Shaftesbury Films. The fifth season of Murdoch Mysteries is poised to pick up right off from the season 4 finale which saw William Murdoch being framed for murder and, after proving his innocence, assisting the confessed killer escape police custody.

Up until only a few months ago, the upcoming fifth season of the late 19th century detective series was thought to be the show’s last as Citytv had announced that they had no interest in continuing the series past season 5. However, the series earned itself a last minute reprieve when Canadian broadcaster CBC announced in November 2011 that they had picked up the series and ordered a sixth season.

What ever happens do not let them stop making Murdoch. It is family friendly and George is brilliant. It is a brilliant series and even now I am looking forward to the next series.
